Park and Recreation Board, June 6, 2013

PARKSIn a very brief meeting, the park board approved Central Park as a site next year for the eighth annual “Walk With Me” event benefiting Easter Seals of Birmingham. The board also voted unanimously to allow the privately operated Resolute Running program to hold summer activities at West Homewood Upper Field (the six-acre field) , rather than Patriot Park, pending payment of fees.  Board member Chris Meeks was absent and did not present the rec center progress report as listed on the agenda.

Members present: Chris Mason, chairman, Tom Walker, Tim Baggett, Tom Blake and Don Little.

Members absent: Keith Stansell, Becky Morton, Paula Smalley, Chris Meeks. Also absent was council liaison Richard Laws.

Staff present:  Director Berkley Squires and board secretary Dianne Rice.

Audience attendance:  1

All votes were unanimous.

Approved: Minutes of the May 2, 2013, meeting

Approved:  Central Park will be site next year of the three-mile “Walk With Me” Easter Seals of Birmingham fundraiser, Saturday, May 17, 2014.

Approved:  Resolute Running was approved to use the West Homewood upper field, rather than Patriot Park, as requested, for its five-day youth fitness programs, scheduled each week from now through July 19.  The approval is pending payment of fees.
