Tonight’s meeting–which itself was rescheduled from last Thursday’s abortive snow day–was canceled at 6:30 p.m. due to a lack of quorum. It is tentatively rescheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19.
Three of the board’s seven members were present at the 6 p.m. start time awaiting the appearance of member Valerie Askew. Board secretary Donna Bridges explained that the Feb. 6 meeting had been rescheduled with the understanding that these four members would all be able to attend–the three others had prior engagements.
During a half hour wait, there was some concern expressed over Ms. Askew’s safety, her unexplained absence, and not answering calls or texts. That was still the situation at 6:30 when the meeting was canceled and contractors and homeowners for six scheduled cases left to go home.
Members present: Lauren Gwaltney, Trey Schaeffer and Brian Jarmon.
Members absent: Valerie Askew, Hope Cannon, Phillip Foster, and Ross McCain.
Staff present: Board secretary Donna Bridges, and Greg Cobb and Vanessa McGrath, Homewood Building, Engineering and Zoning personnel.
Audience attendance: 13
Ms. Bridges also explained that even with a four-member quorum present, all votes would have to be unanimous to conduct business. Rules require a majority vote by all members appointed — not just those present — for an affirmative action.
The Wednesday reschedule time was tentatively set after asking the applicants which night would be best to meet again. Ms. Gwaltney officially closed the meeting at 6:30 p.m.
